Latter-day Lent

[Latter-day Lent] We Miss the Blessings - Week 6: Friday

When we are in the middle of something, it's easy to miss the blessings.

We are so focused on getting an answer to our prayers, that we don't see the blessings we are getting already.

For example, let's say you have an event today, and the weather is poor, so you're event is not going to be as enjoyable.

In your zeal to pray for better weather, you miss the following blessings:

  • The people most committed are there ready to help.
  • The biggest supporters are coming anyway, regardless of the weather.
  • The bad weather doesn't negate all the blessings and hard work you've put in already.
  • The bad weather could be a blessing for other people.
  • and many more…

As we read in Alma, everything testifies there is a God.

Seeing blessings is a choice.

In the midst of getting forced out of Nauvoo, the saints were still finishing the Nauvoo temple after Joseph Smith was martyred.

They were seeking the power that comes from the temple, and then, shortly after it was done and dedicated, they were really forced out and yet, they were grateful to have been endowed with power.

Regardless of the challenges in your life, seek the blessings of the Lord.

And by seek, I mean notice them.

Because they are there.
