Helping Latter-day Saints learn about Lent through daily devotionals to help elevate their Easter celebrations in a higher and holier way.
Sister Runia gave an amazing talk in General Conference in the Sunday morning session. She said, "Heaven isn't for people who've been perfect, it's for people who have been forgiven, and choose Christ again and again." She went on to talk about your eternal worth, and how it is constant, and never changing. If you make bad choices, God does not love you less. If you make mistakes, God does not decrease your value. You are still a beloved son or daughter of God, whom He loves, eternally. And there is a flip side to this, also: If you make good choices, God does not love you more. If you don't make mistakes, God does not increase your value. Whether you are good or evil, your worth in God's eyes is the same. So, why should you make good choices then? Because you want to be like Jesus and return to God. The worth of souls is great in the eyes of God. That scripture doesn't say the worth of souls who are perfect members of the church. It says the worth of souls, meaning the worth of ALL souls. Good. Evil. Bond. Free. The most important thing to note is that when we choose Christ, when we repent and turn to Him again and again, we are signaling to Him, "I want to be with you!" Your worth is eternal. It does not change. This should fill you with joy and gladness, understanding that no matter what you do (or don't do) you can be forgiven, again and again. The atonement is all-encompassing. And what a marvelous blessing that is. You are worthy of God's greatest blessings. That's not a conditional sentence. It is fixed. You, by virtue of being a child of God, are worthy of all the blessings God could possibly bestow upon you. And so it comes down to Agency, are you willing to choose to follow Christ and take advantage of all those blessings?
